Recently as I was expressing my desire to own a barn, I received mixed reviews. Of course, if you know me personally it will register quickly that I'm probably approaching the age of being too old to refurbish a barn. After all, old barns need work, right? And where might my energy factor be that most likely left the building a couple of years ago? But somewhere deep inside this old girl I keep thinking I'm still a very young woman and have a lot of determination to accomplish dreams and goals, although my generation is calling our dreams and goals our bucket list!
Why would I want to attack fixing up an old barn? Because it would be fun and accomplish several goals:
1. It would provide a place for Bible studies, game nights, big gatherings with lots of food and fellowship. Generally, it would be a place to hang out especially when you find yourself with no one else to hang with. Coffee or some type of latte would be available as well as homemade goodies as you sink into a comfy chair to read or find another soul to chat.
2. A second floor or loft with sky lights would provide space for all my ongoing projects. Scrapbooking, making greeting cards, laying out references for study materials and/or brainstorming devotional writings.
3. A barn has so many tales to tell and wouldn't you love to hear those interesting yarns? Even if the boards are weathered and tattered, the paint is fading and most likely the roof is sagging....just like my chin, there are memories yet to be made.
So, if you happen to own a barn and you are not far from me in distance, what do you say? Let's make a place for friends to gather and new friends are made. A place where memories are shared and lonesome hearts are comforted. Where people who thought the best of their lives was over only to find a new beginning by being needed for what they bring to the table.
Yep, I like to think it's still a dream....a goal to be accomplished....not necessarily something I check off a list before I kick the bucket!
Lord, enable us to find places to gather, to entertain, to listen and to share the love you have embedded within us. Help us to make memories for future generations to hold dear. Amen!
