Sometimes it is easy to focus on the challenges life brings, but I’ve been reading a lot lately about the benefits of gratitude. The benefits of changing your thoughts and mindset from everyday life occurrences that feel overwhelming, to focusing on what makes you feel lucky. There will always be challenges and struggles, but luckily there are also silver linings, we just have to remind ourselves that they are there.
I feel incredibly grateful for my husband. He is the most thoughtful and caring partner in life. He supports me and believes in me, sometimes more than I believe in myself. The way he parents our children and works to support them in becoming kind and caring human beings makes me feel especially grateful.
I am grateful for our children, who brighten our world each and every day. Watching how their minds grow and change, and how they care about the world and making it a better place both amazes me and makes me so incredibly proud.
I am thankful for my extended family - my parents, brother, grandmothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Some of my favorite memories as a child, and as I’ve grown to be an adult, is when we can all get together, play games, laugh and joke with each other.
I also feel grateful for the friendships I’ve made over the years. I love when I can get together with the friends that I’ve known since high school and college and it feels like we’ve never spent a minute apart. I’ve also been lucky enough to make friends in my adulthood that feel like a part of home.
Those are the big things in life that make me feel grateful, but there are little things that also make me feel warm and happy. I am grateful for good books, fireplace fires, Christmas trees, holiday lights, soft blankets, hair dye, warm sunny days, the sound of beach waves, apple cider, and good smelling candles for a freshly clean house. When my days get long and challenging, these are the parts of my life I try to bring to focus. These are the aspects of life that bring me joy and the people in life who make me feel incredibly lucky.
