I had the opportunity to talk with my mom this afternoon. As many of you are aware, mom lives in a nursing home and although she has a cell phone, when I want to speak with her I have to call the facility and have a nurse or aide go to her room and hand her the phone. Today was a good day when it all worked and mom was able to talk with me for at least 30-45 minutes. The longer we talked the clearer she was on various facts. We ended our conversation with reading from the Bible and praying.
I am thankful that I can still experience those minutes with my mom. She always ends by thanking me for reading the Bible and usually comments when I conclude my reading, "Honey, that was so good." And then before we hang up, she says, "Just remember, your mama loves you."
Yes, I am thankful I have my mom and I am able to talk with her even though her dementia continues to increase. God rolls back that cloudy curtain for us and once again we are able to remember days gone by and enjoy laughter.
