Today the service at church was on Mary, the mother of Jesus and Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. Very well presented by the pastor as he talked about the sanctity of human life.... The church looks beautiful with banners displayed in red and gold, wreaths on the windows and red poinsettias on the altar. Really gets us ready for the upcoming celebration! Tomorrow I will hopefully get the new devotional up.....take care, my friends. Thanks for tuning in! God bless....
The last entry I made was on Friday....I can't tell you what happened to Saturday! Kimberly and Luke were here for the weekend for attend a wedding and I think I get caught up with visiting. Gary and I then went Christmas shopping and that took a while on Saturday evening and night. We did stop for a bite to eat at the Table. It's a nice little establishment not far from our house and it's located beside a lake....what a view! I enjoyed my coffee, was able to concentrate on my devotions, had a couple of chats on the phone to loved ones out of state and I decided the decorating is done. This year Christmas will be celebrated with a little less "splash." This simply means we are displaying only one Christmas tree and no outside lights. It was a unified decision and to tell you the truth, it has made life a lot less complicated this year. It's as if the focus has switched from the "stuff" to the true "meaning".....everyone should try it! Hope everyone has a delightful weekend and amid all the possible shopping opportunities, stop and enjoy a cup of your favorite coffee or hot chocolate. Breathe in all the sights and sounds of the holiday....and thank our Father for sending the Messiah....Jesus Christ our Lord! Today as I was subbing at our local high school, there was a luncheon held for the club called S.A.D.D., Students Against Destructive Decisions, formerly called Students Against Drunk Driving. The group was having a guest speaker and I was holding down the fort in the Library, so I got to hear the presentation. The speaker, a young female college graduate, shared with the groups that came in during their lunch periods how to stay safe in various situations. From leaving the mall alone and heading to your car to unsafe dealings with individuals you don't know and especially those you do, she reminded the students of safety. I'm just getting my socks blessed off! After all the kindnesses bestowed upon me yesterday, today my mailbox held a wonderful surprise. I got snail mail from one of my "bestest" friends! This particular friend always sends me cards that have two little girls on the front and they are always reflective of us. Sometimes the little girls wear hats, sometimes they are having a tea party or sometimes they are laughing and swinging on a swing set. Instantly I am reminded of days gone by and the friendship we have shared since we were babies at Flat Creek Baptist Church! I am fortunate to have a friend who loves me and reminds me often that I am dear to her. We love snail mail and whenever a card speaks to us at the counter, we purchase it and sent it with love. That's a special treat....being reminded of a long-lasting friendship glued with a special bond. I hope each one of you have a friend like that.....it can't be bought....it has to be "hatched." God bless, my freinds....love you, Suzie! After school today, I decided to drive to the local Christian bookstore to purchase some letterhead for our annual yuletide greeting. As I approached the sales clerk I asked if perhaps there were coupons that I might have missed. After going through several, she pointed out a coupon that begins this Friday....three days away. Torn whether to pay the extra price since the stack of letterhead was getting low or just to take my chances and return on Friday, a most unexpected pleasure happened. A lady came up behind me and explained that she had two coupons. She was using one and the other I could gladly use for my purchases. The amount of the coupon was 25% off my total purchase! I thanked her profusely and she just smiled. Blessing number one for the day came with a lesson... learning the impact of the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The adventure doesn't stop....I then hit the mall with several coupons for a local department store. My dad had asked me to shop a bit for my mom from him and I entered a store she really enjoys. As I began scanning the women's sizes, I noticed that today there was a sale...40% off! As I approached the counter, the sales clerk looked at me and then she saw the coupons I had laid on the counter and aided me with a way to use most all my coupons giving me an additional $33 off my total! Blessing number two....that Golden Rule was given to me again! So, I take away the hint that God wants to remind me to think of others this time of year in the hustle, bustle and flurry of activties....it isn't hard to do, but so easy to neglect. My thanks for these two ladies who geniunely made my day! God bless, my friends! |
