Getting closer to Passover 03/31/2010
As the time nears for the celebration of Easter, various biblical events I have been taught come to mind. Reflecting on the Passover celebration, I am remembering that the death angel would passover the homes of those whose doorposts were covered with the blood of the perfect, sacrificial lamb. Today the death angel is still passing over the homes of those God created. If we are found to be believers of the shed blood of Jesus Christ, God's perfect sacrificial lamb, and outwardly demonstrate that belief in His risen Son, we will escape eternal separation from our heavenly Father. The angel of death still roams the earth today in search of those who will die in their sins without asking forgiveness from God Almighty. I read an interesting sentence during my devotional time. From Warren Wiersbe's devotional, "Prayer, Praise & Promises" come this quote, "When God puts us in the furnace, He always keeps His eye on the clock and His hand on the thermostat". Although difficult to understand at times, I had to smile. I've always been taught that as a maker of hand blown glass needs the hot fire for the molding process of his art, so must we at times go through a melding process of trials. Those trials, orchastrated by God, enable us to realize we need the Lord to mold us and make us into the persons He desires us to be. As I read the above quote, I was once again reminded that God knows...He sees, He understands and He realizes the potential we each possess. But more importantly, He understands and is in full control of our limits. That, my friends, is a neat reminder. God bless! There will be showers of blessings.... 03/29/2010
It's raining....a lot! We returned to Florida on Sunday to rain and this morning is more of the same. As the rain gathers into puddles surrounding our villa, I am reminded that this is probably the third of these storms we have experienced since coming to Florida the 1st of February. Of course, this is out of the ordinary for the Stae of Florida as everyone will attest, but the forecast for the remainder of the week is sunshine and warmth. Although I'm not a big fan of rainy, cloudy and overcast I do feel those are the days I seem to rest. I get caught up on correspondence, writing assignments and the duties of cleaning the house! This morning I have numerous "jobs" to fulfill before Gary returns with our son, Nicholas. Nicholas is flying into Tampa this morning for his Spring break. We are praying for a safe flight and that perhaps this afternoon he will have an opportunity to relax a bit before the sunny days of "let's get out and tour the area"..... I pray that all of you will be able to use these rainy, cloudy days to relax and refresh your bodies and souls so that when the sun comes out you can feel rejuvenated, energetic and ready to attack those Springtime goals! God bless, my friends and have an awesome day! What a lovely time...part 2 03/28/2010
Well, here we wait in the Pittsburgh airport for our departure back to Florida. It's been such a great weekend with a wedding, visiting with our children and attending our home church this morning. It was an enlightening sermon this morning and brought to mind the significance of The Lord's Supper, thanks, Dusty. We continue to look forward to this upcoming week as both kids will be joining us in Venice. It will be a neat time of vacation for all of us...except Gary who continues to work on taxes! God bless, my friends and have a wonderful week! What a lovely time... 03/27/2010
Well, friends...there's nothing like attending a beautiful wedding! Gary and I watched as another of the six beautiful, young women our daughter, Kimberly, hung out with in high school become a "Mrs." last night. These weddings have been delightfully different and translated into each girl's personality as we have attended each event and enjoyed the post celebration with their parents. We have all been blessed beyond belief....God is so good. Gary and I have been able to visit with our children (all three of them), share meals, watch March Madness basketball games, play cards and generally enjoy being together. As we ready ourselves to return to Florida tomorrow, we look forward to having Nicholas and Kimberly join us over the next week for their Spring breaks. But before we leave we especially anticipate attending our home church in the morning....not only to worship, but to visit with friends that we have missed over the past couple of months. God bless each of you, my friends....and enjoy another Lord's Day! Watching for Spring.... 03/26/2010
So we arrived back in Pittsburgh to 60 degrees only to watch as the temperatures dropped and the hint of snow flurries by the weather forecasters were predicted. However, are happy to attend a lovely young woman's wedding this afternoon and the sun is shining brightly for this event! Last evening we popped over to our son's apartment for a little dinner...amazing when your children entertain you for an evening! It was good to see Nicholas and to catch up a bit on what's been going on for the past couple of months while we've been in Florida. This afternoon our daughter and son-in-law will be arriving for the wedding....so an entire weekend of visiting with my kids...what could be better? This morning at Panera's we were linking up to the internet and having a little breakfast and we overhear an individual in ministry giving his charge to a group of men concerning a new ministry effort. How wonderful to hear bits and pieces of his energetic sharing and to know God is working in hearts in Pittsburgh. We realize the same forward march is being done in Venice, Florida as we have spoken with a pastor that desires to move forward with a congregation of elderly individuals. It's very difficult to move forward when your congregation is happy with the present circumstances and comfortable with their current group of friends and fellow members. God has lots of work for us to do....wherever we might hang our hats and display our welcome mats...God needs us to share, Back in the 'burg.... 03/25/2010
Well, after a short 30 hour stop-over from London to our "winter home" in Florida, Gary and I boarded a flight this morning and are currently in Pittsburgh. We will be attending a wedding for one of our "girls" (Kimberly's dear friend)on Friday afternoon and then head back to Florida on Sunday afternoon. The next month will be another busy one for us....and we are enjoying every minute! The biggest plus of this visit is seeing our kids....I don't think we've ever been away from them for two entire months, but they are grown and have their own lives as do we! We will all be attending another wedding on Mother's Day in West Palm Beach....our nephew is tying the knot with a lovely young woman and we are excited to be a part of that celebration. But for now...off to get the nails and toes done for the wedding....of course, I will probably have everything covered up with a coat and closed-toe shoes....after all, I'm back in Pittsburgh! God bless! A whirlwind trip.... 03/24/2010
Well friends, we're back in Florida...but not for long! We just returned from a weekend in London, England. Although taking four days, two of those days were completely covered in traveling across the "pond" and back. It was a wonderful treat to see a European country, but almost a blurr as we tried to make the most of every minute while needing to give our bodies rest (as those same bodies are not as young as they were thirty years ago when we first married)! Another surprise.... 03/21/2010
I simply can't believe it....another surprise tonight. When Gary and I walked into the London pub, The Jugged Hare, I heard a voice and looked up and it was my sweet friend, Jackie Myers and her husband, Scott! They had driven from Darby (about two hours away) to come into the city to meet us for dinner!!!! What an absolutely fantastic surprise!!! We had a wonderfu meal and then a little walking tour with Jackie and Scott as our tour guides. They have been in England on a work assignment for the past couple of years and have made great use of every weekend with travel and learning the countryside. I'm now wishing we had more time to spend with them in Darby and the surrounding areas....there is so much to see and do here! Tired, but happy... 03/21/2010
Well, my friends....the destination has been reached. Gary has royally surprised me....we're in LONDON, ENGLAND for our 30th wedding anniversary! It's unbelievable that we have traveled across the "pond" and will be spending the next few days in London. We are to have dinner at a local pub tonight, an entire day tour of the city on Monday and Monday night (our actual anniversary date) we will be attending the play "Dirty Dancing" at a London theater! I'm blown away but currently so tired I can't hold my head up! We flew all night and I watched two movies. First, Doris Day and Rock Hudson in the oldie, "Pillow Talk" and then "Everybody's Fine" with Robert DeNiro...the latter being sad, but true in a lot of families. My postings are going on today....the devotional thought for the week and the Bucket List information. Hope everyone is doing well and the participants of the study enjoyed having an additional week to catch up. God bless, everyone....my posts for the next couple of days will be summarizing our events in England! |
